Mesh Independence of Matrix-Free Methods for Path Following
W. R. FERNG AND C. T. KELLEY Abstract. In this paper we consider a matrix-free path following algorithm for nonlinear parameter-dependent compact fixed point problems. We show that if these problems are discretized so that certain collective compactness and strong convergence properties hold, then this algorithm can follow smooth folds and capture simple bifurcations in a mesh independent way.
متن کاملA mesh-independence result for semismooth Newton methods
For a class of semismooth operator equations a mesh independence result for generalized Newton methods is established. The main result states that the continuous and the discrete Newton process, when initialized properly, converge q-linearly with the same rate. The problem class considered in the paper includes MCP-function based reformulations of first order conditions of a class of control co...
متن کاملMesh-free adjoint methods for nonlinear filters
We apply a new industrial strength numerical approximation, called the “mesh-free adjoint method,” to solve the nonlinear filtering problem. This algorithm exploits the smoothness of the problem, unlike particle filters, and hence we expect that mesh-free adjoints are superior to particle filters for many practical applications. The nonlinear filter problem is equivalent to solving the Fokker-P...

متن کاملConsistency analysis of mesh-free methods for conservation laws
Based on general partitions of unity and standard numerical flux functions, a class of mesh-free methods for conservation laws is derived. A Lax-Wendroff type consistency analysis is carried out for the general case of moving partition functions. The analysis leads to a set of conditions which are checked for the finite volume particle method FVPM. As a by-product, classical finite volume schem...
